Pulp & Paper Plant – Cyclone Replacement

An existing cyclone at a paper plant required replacement and the plant did not have any drawings available to replace the unit.

The contractor responsible for replacing the cyclone reached out to Shield to scan, model and provide fabrication drawings of the cyclone.

The cyclone was scanned, modelled, drawn up and fabrication drawings were provided to the client.

A unique aspect of this project is the existing cyclone connected to various ducts at various locations creating a requirement to ensure the flanges on the replacement cyclone were correctly located.

Shield leveraged its advanced point cloud processing and 3D modelling capabilities and correctly positioned the tie-points allowing the contractor to “lower and bolt in” the replacement cyclone. This precise fit up saved the plant from excessive downtime and greatly simplified the job for the contractor.
