Shield’s client was in the process of refurbishing an existing maritime vessel. Part of the work entailed replacing the existing diesel generator engines which required the mounting to be re-machined to suit.
The vessel’s helicopter landing pad rails were also being upgraded and new rails were to be installed which required elevated degrees of accuracy to ensure proper operation and service life.
Shield provided real-time laser tracking metrology services to ensure both the motor mounts and helicopter rails were installed to stringent manufacturer requirements.
The laser tracking services allowed the work to be done in a fraction of the time and at much higher accuracies compared to previously employed scanning and surveying methods.
